Nicolaé Gutsa is a gypsy from the Balkans. In Romanian or Romany, he sings songs for listening, songs for dancing, including the 'doina', an evocation of various states of mind, from nostalgia to ardent desire (or 'dor').
He learned his repertoire from the older members of his village and above all from his grandfather, who came from Muntenia. His interpretation is very personal and also very virtuosic.

He has inimitable swing and an impressive technique making use of rhythmic onomatopoeia. He is joined by Anton Trifoi, violin, and Remus Carpaci, saxophone, plus a decidedly modern rhythm section.
The traditional gypsy style, his immense qualities as a musician and the modernity of his arrangements have made him one of the greatest stars to emerge from Romania's gypsy communities.
