PAUL JAMES & MARK HAWKINS

Paul James, whose reputation as a musician and composer goes well beyond the shores of his native land, was at the origin, from the 1980s onwards, of the introduction of traditional French music into England.
Well known in France for his work with Blowzabella and the folk-funk-jazz group Scarp, he has been playing for several years now with the composer of film music Mark Hawkins.

Their music brings together traditional Anglo-European music and modern rhythms, via trance. Jazz has always been a vital ingredient in Paul James's composition
Each piece is a mixture of sound. The influences come from every part of the world. But bagpipes and drone are fundamental in a work in which samplers and computers meet up with historic instruments.

At Saint-Chartier, Patrick Bouffard will be the 'surprise' guest
of Paul James, Mark Hawkins and their group.

saturday, 14 July - Espace Plus 3.30pm
