Duo Bertrand in residence at Saint-Chartier : carte blanche for an original performance.
Formed in 1991, Duo Bertrand is devoted to the revival of the traditional music of Vendée, Brittany.
Thierry plays the violin, the shawm, and the veuze, a regional bagpipe which disappeared at the beginning of the twentieth century and was saved partly by the work of the collectors who visited the singers and pipers who were the last representatives of the tradition. In his playing he is respectful of tradition, whilst adding a modern touch, which makes his playing unique.

Thierry Bertrand's playing, characterised by pressure and tension, has led him to be regarded by many specialists as one of the very greatest pipers, and comparable to certain jazz musicians.
Sébastien plays the diatonic accordion with similar mastery. This is a wonderfully strong, firm duo, backed by a cello (Thierry Moreau), a hurdy-gurdy (Anne-Lise Foy), and percussion (Antonin Volson).
A fine opportunity to hear tunes from that part of France: maraîchines, polkas, branles and marches.

" The bagpipe-accordion duo is not uncommon, but this one has lots of new things to show. "
