To celebrate the festival's 25th anniversary as well as the year 2000, the Georges Sand Committee invited Gilles Chabenat, to put his creative genius to work.Gilles Chabenat is a hurdy-gurdy player of unquestionable talent, a native of these parts, bathed in local culture, whose music is also forward-looking, with modern sounds and compositions based on electronics. As it was a form of recognition (and gratitude) and also because the subject ('Why the hurdy-gurdy in the year 2000?') was unusual, Gilles accepted.
He decided to hinge the performance on his acoustic or electroacoustic hurdy-gurdy, the more traditional instruments of the group Sonnez bourdons, a classical orchestra, Tempo Primo, composed of young musicians from Chateauroux, musician friends (bagpipes, vocals, flutes, clarinet...) and a jazz trio - that of Denis Badault. Jacques Blanc, a scenographer and electrician well-known to regular visitors to Le Quartz in Brest, was also called in to exercise his talents.
