Marie Rossard is twenty-one. Her repertoire is a tribute to the memory of Rachel Grimaud and Louise Cohadier, who used to sing in La Gātine, Poitou: two repertoires, sometimes moving, sometimes droll, sometimes lively, and always fascinating. ; |
Marie Rossard, a former member of the group Ardivelle (whose fine accordionist, Jean-Marie Jagueneau, accompanies her in this programme), was discovered at the 1999 edition of the Parthenay Festival (" De Bouche Ą Oreille "). She presents these colourful, original and sensitive pieces with great skill, simplicity and verve. |

Rachel Grimaud, born at Saint-Aubin-Le-Cloud in May 1887, died a few years ago. She is the main source of Marie Rossard's repertoire. She left school with her primary leaving certificate. Later she was a translator, adapter, author, folklorist and collector, but she is remembered above all as a singer of great talent and charisma, |
who learned her repertoire in the fields and granite quarries, and at weddings. Her originality lies in the fact that she was interested in the past, rooted in the present, and always ahead of her time. Is it not the special gift of every traditional musician or singer to be both unique and exemplary, creative yet concerned with the past, firmly rooted yet universal ? |
