La Moresca (named after the exclusively male dance of the same name, which occurred widely in Europe during the Renaissance, and to which the English morris dance is probably related), came into being in 1990, formed by two musicians, Vittorio Acone and Mario G. Rossi. Their aim: to present the fine music of southern Italy, and in particular that of Naples and its environs.

After exploring the traditional repertoire, the group turned to " fusion ", bringing together the traditions of southern Italy and those of other Mediterranean countries. " At last, the echoes of the past, the echoes of tradition achieve their true dimension in a future that is already with us now. " With their fine voices and wide variety musical instruments, they bring a breath of fresh air to the music of southern Italy.
